How tall are you?

Did you play basketball?

Why do you have on heels, aren’t you tall enough?

I’ve been the tallest one in the room for most of my life. My mother, father, aunt and a host of cousins all stand at 5-foot-10 and up. So being tall always felt natural, until I left the house that is.

How short are you?

Man are you tall enough to play “any” sports?

What’s it like standing so close to the ground?

All valid questions, but ones I was never bold enough to ask. I gave others lack of sensitivity and inappropriateness a pass, but I was never convinced that they’d offer me the same grace if I asked those questions. Therefore I never gave my rebuttal.

Instead I decided to draw more attention to my tallness. After all why not?

I’m 6-foot-1. From hip to foot my legs are 48 inches long (a 38 inseam). Yes I’m all legs! But I am uniquely made. I was born with a beautiful enhancement that not even the best plastic surgeon can replicate.

DYK  0.7% of U.S. women are 5-foot-10 or taller, and just 3.9% of men are 6-foot-2 or taller. We’re not average…no if anything we’re far from it. We’re what I call “above-average.” Our height is an asset, not a flaw or weakness.

I love everything about being tall. I love walking into a room and being able to find people in a crowd. I love wearing 3-5 inch heels and dresses to accentuate my legs. And I love that my presence enters the room long before I open my mouth.

My advice is to fall in love with your height. After all, why fit in when you were born to stand out!
